TRANSCRIPT In the first frame of today’s comic, we see Jughead, Betty and Veronica. Look in the closet behind Jughead. Jughead has taken off his hat and he has placed it on the shelf in the closet. He is holding a helmet in his hands. Jughead must have taken off his hat so that he could put on the helmet. Look at Jughead’s clothing. He is wearing some unusual clothing! Betty and Veronica look like they are confused. In the second frame Betty says to Veronica, “I didn’t know Jughead was on the hockey team.” Veronica answers her by saying, “He’s not!” meaning that Jughead is not on the hockey team. In the last frame we see the joke. We see WHY Jughead put on the helmet and why he was wearing the unusual clothes. Jughead is Archie’s lab partner! I think Jughead is afraid that something is going to go wrong in the lab! GLOSSARY 1. Closet - A closet is a cupboard built into the wall of a room from the floor to the ceiling Jughead put his hat in the closet. 2. Shelf - A shelf is a long flat narrow board attached to a wall or in a cupboard. A shelf is used for putting things on. Please put the book on the shelf. 3. Helmet – A helmet is a strong hard hat that soldiers, motorcycle riders, and police often wear to protect their heads. Jughead is going to wear a helmet to class because he is Archie’s lab partner and he is afraid he might get hurt! 4. Clothes – Clothes are the things that people wear to cover their body or to keep warm. 5. Wearing – When you wear something it means that you have something such as clothes or shoes on your body: What kind of clothes was Jughead wearing? 6. Unusual - Unusual means different from what is usual or normal 7. Confused – When someone is confused they are unable to understand something or are unable to think clearly about what is going on Betty and Veronica were confused about Jughead putting on a hockey helmet. 8. Hockey team – Hockey is a sport played on ice. In the game, the players try to hit a hard flat round object called a puck into the other team’s goal with special sticks. A team is a group of people who play a game or sport together against another group or team Betty and Veronica thought that Jughead was getting dressed to play hockey. 9. Lab partner – Lab is a shortened form of the word, laboratory. A laboratory is a special room or a building where a scientist does tests. In the last frame of today’s comic Archie is pictured in a high school lab. A partner is someone you do an activity with, for example you may be doing an experiment with someone in a science lab. Jughead is Archie’s lab partner. They are doing a science experiment or test together in the high school science lab. 10. Behind - Behind means at or towards the back of a thing or person.
